Evergreen

I close my eyes, and inhale.

I’m nostalgic.

When I smell the soft, musky scent of a holiday wreath,

Like an evergreen christmas tree,

The scent warms my nose and my heart.

When I smell it, I see my grandmother’s living room.

The curtains decorated with evergreen garland, classic clear lights shining on the red and gold glitter ornaments scattered throughout.

There are Santa’s everywhere, all different kinds.

Ceramic, wooden, stuffed plushies, and more.

Santas on blankets and plates.

The house is filled with laughter and the sound of the piano playing the pre recorded disk we always listen to at Christmas time.

My aunts bring out the chocolate they brought for us from Holland.

I open my eyes and take one more sniff.

I’m nostalgic.
