Summer

A few days a go I was so excited to make a cute post about the first day of summer. However, on that day, it did not feel like summer at all. It was cold, and rainy. The sky was filled with grey clouds. So, I decided to wait.

Now, it truly feels like summer. Today is such a beautiful day! The trees are dancing in the wind. The grass, smiling towards the sun! On my way to work on my internship, I saw a squirrel just sitting at the bottom of a tree chowing down on a nut. This is how summer should feel. Wind in my hair, sun shining on my face, that is what I call summer.

So now that it is summer, I have decided to ask college students how they feel about it. Here is a list of a few of the responses when asked "How do you feel about summer?"

"Summer is summer. I look forward to it until I start looking forward to the school year."

-Celina

"I love summer. It's a great time of year for introspection to see how far you've come since last year. (Sort of like a New Year's but for college students.)

-Catherine

"It becomes nostalgic when I get towards the the end of the school year because I can remember how freeing it was as a kid, but it is not freeing now. It's a lot more complicated than it was."

-Alex

"Summer is going amazing! I'm finishing up training for work and have made several shopping trips! Vacation and concert coming up in July then back to Augie!"

-Bridget

"I like the sound of it, but sometimes it sucks. Once you're old enough to get a job we just work insane hours and don't have as much time for fun."

-Cheyenne

"Summer is fun but I am excited to go back to Augie and bool with my goons."

-Bobby

"Summer is definitely my favorite season. But, it's weird looking back on childhood summers when I didn't need a job... but then adulting happened."

-Sophia

"I'm feeling really good yet sad about summer because I am surrounded by love and enthusiasm. But I'm sad because I know it is going to end soon."

-Hansel

"Summer doesn't feel like summer anymore. I like the warm weather but I miss the fun and I'm ready to go back to school."

-Syd

"Summer is freeing because I get to choose my own schedule."

-Mary

"I'm working myself to death. But hey, I bought a car."

-Erin

I can honestly say that I agree with majority of these people. Summer is tough because we all look forward to sunny days and hanging out with our friends. Sometimes that may be the case. But, the reality of the situation is that we work so much, there is almost no time to have fun. Instead, we are so exhausted that we sleep. Pile on the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. That makes it very hard to truly enjoy summer. However, that just makes the fun times, that much more fun. We cherish the moments we get to spend with our family and friends because those moments are so rare. Being able to relax and have fun, rather than work is worth it, and eventually summer ends. So, that being said, summer is simply bittersweet.
